Studio Cast and Creative Team

Steve Blanchard (Doc Holliday) stars as the Beast in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast.  During a brief respite from the role, which he has played for several years, he starred as Johnny in the off-Broadway musical Johnny Guitar opposite his Sundown co-star, Judy McLane. Other Broadway credits include Lancelot in Camelot, Fred in A Christmas Carol, and the second guy on the right in The Three Musketeers. National tours include Camelot with Robert Goulet, Milos in A Funny Thing...with Mickey Rooney and the Phantom in Ken Hill's Phantom of the Opera. On television he has been seen in Ed, Third Watch, Law and Order, Sunset Beat, Police Story, Another World, One Life to Live,Guiding Light, and Rapmaster Ronnie for HBO. 




Judy McLane (Kate Fisher) is currently appearing on Broadway in Mamma Mia as Tanya. She recently received critical acclaim for her performance as Vienna in the musical Johnny Guitar , receiving a Drama Desk Award Nomination for Best Actress in a Musical and Drama League Honor for Distinguished Performance in the Theater. This same year she received a Helen Hayes Nomination for Best Actress in a musical for her role of Phyllis in Follies at the Signature Theater in DC. Broadway shows include Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Aspects of Love and Chess (cast album, and “Chess in Concert” at Carnegie Hall). National and international tours include Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife), Big (Mrs.Baskin), Joseph… (Narrator, co-starring with Donny Osmond). Regional: the title role in Victor/Victoria, Eva Peron in Evita, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Nancy in Oliver!, Luisa in Nine, Florence in Chess, Lily in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Paper Mill Playhouse, Pittsburgh CLO), The World Goes ‘Round (Cape Playhouse), Kate in Kiss me Kate (Westchester Broadway Theater), Rebecca in Rags (AMT of San Jose), Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar (Sacramento Civic Light Opera), Grizabella in Cats, and Millie in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Muny, St. Louis). Judy  frequently performs as a soloist with symphony orchestras. Some of these include the Bolshoi Orchestra in Moscow, the National Orchestra of Lyon, France, National Symphony of Canada, and orchestras in St.Louis, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis,  and Baltimore. On television she played Darla on “Another World.” Judy has performed the role of Kate Fisher in Sundown  in developmental readings at the York Theatre, The Hal Prince Musical Theatre Program, and in the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop. In addition to the cd of Sundown, she can be heard on the recording of Johnny Guitar.

 

Patrick Ryan Sullivan (Wyatt Earp) has appeared in the Broadway productions of Beauty and the Beast (Gaston), Titanic (Barrett and Farrell), and the revival of 42nd Street (Julian Marsh), after appearing in the critically acclaimed national tour of the smash musical. Recently, Patrick played several parts in Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee's Auntie Mame starring Charles Bush and participated in  New York Musical Theatre Festival's inaugural season  playing D.B. Norton in Meet John Doe. He has traveled three continents, playing such roles as Victor in Private Lives, Bo in Bus Stop, Tony in Dial "M" for Murder, Billy in Carousel, in addition to roles in I Do, I Do, Phantom of the Opera, Romance/Romance, The Fantasticks, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Moon Over Buffalo, and many more. Patrick has performed the role of Wyatt Earp in Sundown in developmental readings at the York Theatre, The Hal Prince Musical Theatre Program, and in the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop.

 

Joe Lutton (Tom McLaury) has appeared in classical plays with national repertory companies and starred in musicals in the U.S., Europe, Canada, and London's West End. He won the Manchester Theatre Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story at the Manchester Opera House and went on to work with the legendary Pete Townsend, performing the role of Captain Walker in the European premier and Canadian National Tour of The Who's Tommy. His debut film, Fishing, has won the Best of the Fest at the Great Lakes Film Festival, and Joe received the Grand Prize for Best Directorial Debut at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. In addition to the cd of Sundown, he can be heard on Basic, a recently released cd, written and performed with Lee Morgan. Joe has performed the role of Tom McLaury in Sundown in developmental readings at the York Theatre, The Hal Prince Musical Theatre Program, and in the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop. 

 

ROBERT ARONSON (Ike Clanton) appeared at the Goodspeed Opera House in Peter Link's revised version of King of Hearts and at The Norma Terris Theatre portraying Abel Magwitch in Great Expectations. In New York Robert has credits with the York Theater, Riverside Shakespeare Co., and Paul Zimet’s company, The Talking Band. He also participated in an industry-only reading of Summer, a musical based on Edith Wharton's novel, directed by Leonard Foglia. Robert has toured nationally as King Arthur in Camelot and played Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music in East Asia. Regionally, he has re-created the role of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha in five different productions. Other credits include John Adams in 1776 and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, both at West Virginia Public Theater; Juan Peron in Evita, Gateway and Candlewood Playhouses; Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, Helen Hayes PAC; and The Duke in BIg  River, North Carolina Theater. He has sung in many productions with the Minnesota Opera.

 

JIMMY BENNETT (Morgan Earp)  is  the co-creator and star of the off-Broadway “cult classic” The Nuclear Family, as well as the extended family for the Sundance Film Channel/Viacom. He recently finished collaboration on the movie musical Say You Do, co-starring with Julia Murney, as well as the non-musical films Free Delivery and Last Men On Earth, due out this fall. New York credits include NYTW, The York Theatre, Playwrights Horizon, The Belt, The Zipper, Westside Theatre, Madison Square Garden, The Peking, and Raw Impressions Music Theatre (a unique artistic matchmaking company pairing writers and composers to create new music theatre pieces). Jimmy has also been heard playing bluegrass in the hills of West Virginia. He  has performed the role of Morgan Earp in Sundown in developmental readings at the York Theatre, The Hal Prince Musical Theatre Program, and in the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop. 

 

DENNIS DEAL (Virgil Earp) has never not  been with a vocal group, be it singing, arranging, playing and conducting, or staging. However, Dennis is most widely known for his 50's musical sendup Nite Club Confidential, which he wrote and directed Off Broadway, on London's West End, and in Los Angeles. Los Angeles Magazine said the show had "... Harmonies so cool you'd better wear mink!" and Theater Week Magazine labeled the show "the camp masterpiece of the cabaret musical genre." Dennis has arranged for a wide array of top performers, including Nell Carter, Johnny Cash, Elaine Stritch, Chita Riveria, Mimi Hines, Barbara Eden, Helen O'Connell, and Eddy Arnold. He has also produced and arranged a CD for Manhattan Transfer's Cheryl Bentyne. The New Haven Symphony premiered two movements of his New England Suite. For many years, Dennis has been a proud member of the jazz-pop group The Accidentals, whose most recent CD is Intermittent Plush.

 

JULIA WADE (Woman in Black) was recently featured at the Rome Opera in Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark. This production, conducted by Steven Mercurio and directed by Giorgio Marini, was also co-produced at Teatro Massimo, the Palermo Opera, and was televised on RAI TV throughout Italy. Other highlights from the opera stage include leading roles in Cosi Fan Tutti , Die Fledermaus, Le Nozza Di Figaro, La Boheme, The Magic Flute, The Medium, Hansel and Gretel, Suor Angelica, The Telephone, The Face on the Barrom Floor, and the title role in Starbird. In addition, Julia has created principal roles in two world premieres: Eve and The Emcee in Henry Mollicone’s Hotel Eden, and Anna in West of Washington Square  by Alva Henderson. Julia has performed with the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Keith Lockhart at Carnegie Hall and has been a guest artist at CAMI Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Regional theatre credits include Guenevere in Camelot, Laurie in Oklahoma, and The White Witch in Narnia, a musical version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Julia's debut solo album, The Greatest Thing in the World, is a contemporary classical CD of original inspirational music by Peter B. Allen.  In addition to Sundown, Julia recently recorded two other studio cast recordings, Pompeii and Africa Plumbridge. Her new solo album of inspirational songs, UPON THE MOUNTAIN, was composed and produced by Peter Link.

 

Jeffrey C. Wolf (Billy Clanton) works as both a director and an actor. Jeff has directed the Rich Orlaff comedies Romantic Fools at the Foolish Theatre Company and Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson at Kaleidoscope Theatre Company. He has  also honed his directing skills  as assistant director on Sam Dead (American Theatre of Actors), and as writer and Director  of Good-byes (Penn State).   As an actor, Jeff’s New York credits include Cloud Nine (Joshua/Cathy), Reckless (Tom), and God and Mr. Smith (the title role, well, the second one). He has performed regionally from Florida to St. Louis, peforming in such shows as Damn Yankees, Good News, My Fair Lady, Sweeney Todd and Camelot, winning excellent reviews as Mordred. Recently, Jeff headed the Drama Department at Camp Vega in Maine, teaching and directing young people theatre and performance. He is also a recent NYC Marathon finisher.

 

 

PETER LINK   (composer/ Frank McLaury) won the Drama Desk Award as composer of the musical Salvation, and his scores for Joseph Papp's Much Ado About Nothing and Neil Simon's The Good Doctor earned him back-to-back Tony Award nominations. His musical concert The River received TOR awards for Best Musical and Peter received Best Director and Best Composer/Lyricist awards. As Composer-in-Residence at the New York Shakespeare Festival, he wrote the score for many shows, including phigenia, Older People, The Orphan, Comedy or Errors and Trelawney of the Wells. Broadway credits include Ulysses in Nightgown, starring Zero Mostel; Lysistrata, starring Melina Mercouri; The Mighty Gents, starring Morgan Freeman; and King of Hearts, recently seen in a revised version at Goodspeed Opera House with Gabe Barre directing. Peter composed for, produced, and directed the long running Jenny Burton Experience. The vocal group has performed all over the world and won Backstage, Critics Choice and Mac Awards. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Mathis, Dionne Warwick, Peggy Lee, and even Mae West. Ronnie Dyson's recording of Peter's "If You Let Me Make Love to You (Then Why Can't I Touch You)" from Salvation became a Billboard #1 hit, earning Peter a gold record and selling over two million copies. The composer recently recorded a double cd titled Thru Me:The Songs of Peter Link, and orchestrated and produced the cd for the musical Africa Plumbridge and artist Julia Wade's sacred cd, Upon The Mountain, a fusion of classical, folk and original pop songs. Peter’s new ballet, Extra, Extra, for Jacques d’Amboise’s National Dance Institute, was recently part of an evening entitled My Place and played at The Concert Theater at La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts. He has also scored several movies and created the award winning PBS children's show Vegetable Soup. Additionally, he has contibuted to Sesame Street, The Electric Company and The Big Blue Marble. As an actor, he has appeared in a long running role on CBS's As the World Turns and on Broadway in Hair.  

 

Larry Rosler (lyricist, bookwriter) co-wrote the book for Island in collaboration with Joe Bravaco, with music and lyrics by Peter Link. Island, which has been presented by Portland Stage Company and Virginia Stage Company, was recently seen in a revised version at the York Theatre Company in Manhattan. As an actor, Larry toured with the national company of Larry Gelbart's Sly Fox, starring Jackie Gleason and Cleavon Little, directed by Arthur Penn.  On Broadway he understudied Chris Cooper in David French's Of the Fields, Lately. He also appeared at the Kennedy Center in the Folger Theatre production of Tina Howe's Museum. Other credits include A.R. Gurney's Who Killed Richard Corey? (Circle Repertory Company) Susan Dworkin's Deli's Fable (Playwrights Horizons), Tad Mosel's All the Way Home (Equity Theatre Libray), and Christopher Martin's adaptation of Moby Dick (Classic Stage Comany). Larry has performed at the Allenberry Playhouse and has also been an artist in residence at Toledo University and the State University of New York at Stony Brook, appearing in The Play's the Thing, Black Comedy;White Lies, Sleuth, Pygmalion and The Real Inspector Hound.

 

Joe Bravaco (bookwriter) co-wrote the book for Island in collaboration with Larry Rosler, with music and lyrics by Peter Link. The four character musical was produced by Portland Stage Company and Virginia Stage Company and further developed at the York Theatre Company in Manhattan with Terry Burrell, Ann Crumb, Paul Binato and Byron Utley. Joe is the author of a number of plays, including All-Star produced by Chicago's Victory Gardens Theatre as part of its New Playwrights Series, Break Point, written in collaboration with Mike Lanzafama and produced by Washington D.C.'s Source Theatre, and Matthew's Navigator, winner of three national one-act play competitions. He has also written the book and lyrics for The Flowering Thorn, with music by Robert Cioffi. Based on The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Flowering Thorn was produced off-Broadway at the Cubiculo Theatre under the title Dorian Gray. The revised version was recently developed in staged readings at New Jersey Rep and 12 Miles West Theatre.
